McCormick Drive Inn

Located at 117 Virginia St, McCormick, SC, McCormick Drive Inn offers a unique, local dining experience for those seeking classic American comfort food. This quaint, no-frills establishment is a favorite for locals and visitors alike, providing a simple yet flavorful menu that highlights fresh, made-to-order dishes.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the fried chicken, which is consistently praised for its crispy, golden-brown skin and moist, tender meat. Unlike many other establishments, the chicken is perfectly seasoned without being greasy, making it a standout option for anyone craving authentic Southern comfort food. For those not in the mood for fried chicken, the Drive Inn also serves up juicy, thick burgers with a generous helping of melted cheese, all sandwiched between a toasted bun. It’s a far cry from fast food chains and offers a much more satisfying and flavorful bite.

The dining experience is cozy, with two long tables providing a communal setting for guests. While the seating can be a bit limited, this only adds to the charm of the place, often encouraging patrons to share a table and strike up a conversation with strangers-turning them into soon-to-be friends. The casual, homey atmosphere is complemented by the absence of air conditioning, with the door typically left open to let in the fresh air, though it may attract a few flies.

The menu is simple but satisfying, featuring not only fried chicken and burgers but also fried fish, onion rings, and crispy okra. While sides like coleslaw and French fries are staples, there's a call from some customers for more vegetable options, such as green beans or a vegetable medley, to balance the hearty dishes.

McCormick Drive Inn's charm lies in its simplicity and commitment to quality, offering freshly prepared meals in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout, it's a spot you won’t forget.

There are two places you can get a burger in McCormick, at Hardee's or at the Drive Inn. It will take a little longer but it's so much better than a chain. Plenty of cheese, cooked to order and flavorful thick patties are topped with a toasted bun. If you like local, road food type establishments then you will enjoy it here. The door is usually open due to lack of air conditioning and flies are part of the experience. Little room to sit even though the diner is full of chairs. You probably share a table with a stranger, soon to be friend.

Ordered the fried chicken which is really good. Nice flakey-crunchy skin. Flavorful, moist and not greasy. It was perfect. Drinks are from bottle and not fountain drinks and dining is in form of two long tables. Not a ton of room, but very quaint. I suspect most people order take out. I was a little confused on where to park so parked on the main street and walked around the corner to the restaurant. This place has a nice simple menu of hamburgers, fried fish, chicken and a few other items. Sides are mostly french fries, onion rings, fried okra, and coleslaw. I would love to see them have a vegetable medley or green beans, or corn. Just a few more veggie choices than just the coleslaw. Potato salad would be a good choice too. But the chicken is REALLY good. I can definitely see myself coming back and ordering takeout chicken and bring it home.

I didn't get to try their famed fried chicken because I walked in after their closing time. Nevertheless they allowed us to come in and served us some very good barbecue sandwiches and fries. Very friendly and very accommodating. Can't wait to get back to try the fried chicken!

Definitely a great place for fried chicken as they've been making it for 41 years now. Just be sure to call ahead (852-2717) because they don't make it until your order. (Allow 30 minutes) Lots of other choices on the menu though like hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and specials of the day. They have a few offerings for dessert like milk shakes and Apple Uglies. There isn't much room for dining inside; there is just enough room for a few tables. Most of their business seems to be pick-up and they certainly seem busy in that regard. Friendly staff. The dining area could definitely be a little cleaner. I definitely recommend calling ahead and picking up some chicken if you are in the area.

This is not a cinema, it's a restaurant and the food is amazingly good home cooking. THE best fried chicken you will ever find. Great menu - something for everyone. Small and comfortable. If you're in or passing through McCormick make sure you grab a bite to eat here.
